Introduction To The New Children

'Other generations tried, but then they become apathetic. This generation won't, unless we drug them into submission with Ritalin.'

To skeptics the concept of indigo children belongs in the realm of wishful thinking and New Age credulity. 'All of us would prefer not to have our kids labeled with a psychiatric disorder, but in this case it's a sham diagnosis,' said Russel Barkley, a research professor of psychiatry at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. 'There's no science behind it. There are no studies.'" -- New York Times

The arguments for and against the Indigo Children and the Crystal Children are abundant. There are those that argue strongly against it, saying that it's the product of bad parenting and wishful thinking, and then there are those who argue that it's genuine and a show that humans are evolving. The opinions differ from person to person, each taking a stand in some opinion. 

The New Children are argued to be decedents of 'aliens,' or have had aliens mess around with their DNA. Some think they are a combination of angels and humans, being dubbed 'huangels.' ('Hu' is considered a prefix put before the name of a species whose appearance happens to be humanoid.) There are those that also say they are bratty children with ADD, ADHD and/or Autism.

Whatever the arguments are, people do often make their own decisions in the end. A person(s) cannot be truly known through a list of traits and characteristics. It is through interaction and experience that people make their judgements.

To believers and new agers, The New Children are said to be be ushering in a new era in huma n history. They are children here on a mission to change the world for the better. While both are different from the other, they are said to be equally important, contributing their unique part to the large scheme of things. While the indigos, named such for their auras, are the system busters, the crystal children, named for their crystalline appearing eyes, are here to heal old wounds and make the world a safer place, showing love and compassion where it is needed. It is much like the previous generations, such as generation x and the baby boomers, they are born into their eras to make changes, as the generations before them have done. They are people of their time.

What is an Indigo Child and Crystal Child?

A Indigo Child and A Crystal Child are said to be individuals that have set of new and unusual psychological attributes that causes a unique pattern of behavior that the generations before them have not displayed. These traits are said to contribute to a personality that is revolutionary, forging paths for new ways of thinking and being.

Who are the Indigo and Crystal Children?

They are people, just like you or me. When you cut them, they will bleed. When you ask them their hopes and dreams, they will have or have had them. They can have bad days and they can have good days. They can be young and they can be old. While there are things about them that are different, they are just like you--a you that you could be, too, though.

Traits and Characteristics of Indigo Children and Crystal Children

The term indigo was coined by Nancy Ann Tappe, a unique parapsychologist, in the late 1970s. It was then that Ms. Tappe began noticing a new life color that she called 'indigo.' She was the first person to have identified the indigo child aura and explains it as being 'one of the most exciting changes in human nature ever documented in society.' Nancy Tappe was able to label this color due a unique condition known as synesthesia combined with her psychic gifts, allowing her to perceive color through all five of her senses. It has been twenty-five (give or take a few years) since her identification of the aura color 'indigo' and the term as grown into a widely used label for children with the following traits:

  • Strong will
  • Born in 1978 or later
  • Headstrong
  • Creative, with an artistic flair for music, jewellery making, poetry...etc...
  • Prone to addictions
  • An 'old soul' (as if they're 13 going on 43)
  • Intuitive or psychic
  • An isolationist (either aggressive acting out or fragile introversion)
  • Independent and proud
  • Possesses a deep desire to help the world in a big way
  • Tilts between low self-esteem and grandiosity.
  • Bores easily
  • Maybe diagnosed as having ADD or ADHD
  • Prone to insomnia, restless sleep, nightmares, or difficulty/fear of falling asleep
  • Looks for real, deep and lasting friendships
  • Easily bonds with plants and animals
  • Can appear arrogant, acting like royalty
  • Often knows who they are (and will tell you)
  • Has difficulty with authority without choice (aka, they like democracy)
  • Can be impatient at times, such as when waiting in line
  • Doesn't like systems that are ritual orientated, prefers creative thought
  •  Often vocal about their needs
  • Often has warrior orientated personality
  • Often non-conformist
  • Either strong empathy towards others or no empathy
  • Talented visionaries
  • Often have very old, deep, wise looking eyes

After the Indigo Children, it was said that the next runner ups in the leap of evolution are the Crystal Children. While I am not sure if this is true or not, it is said that The Group were the first to identity and Label the Crystal Child vibration in May of 1997. They were mentioned in a channeling and have been popular ever since. They have been in mentioned along with the Indigo Children all over the net, and in books, as well as other works. The Crystal children are said to have different attributes than the Indigo Children, and are therefore identified separately. While the Indigos are warrior-orientated, the Crystal Children are said to be more down to Earth--layed back, if you will. They often are said to have the following traits:

  • Have loving, forgiving, magnetic personalities
  • Very nurturing, love cuddling, kissing and hugging
  • Don't like clothing, seem to prefer nakedness, or like soft materials
  • Often intuitive or psychic--telepathy as one of them
  • Starts talking late in childhood, may even start walking late
  • Strong desire to help others
  • Has large, clear eyes
  • Sensitivity to their environment
  • Creative
  • Likes stones, crystals and such
  • Loves nature
  • Has natural healing abilities
  • Creative, artistic and musically orientated
  • Maybe diagnosed as autistic

The one thing you will notice about both Indigo and Crystal Children is that they are life-changing, and can be addicting at times. These individuals are amazing to be around, and they will often times touch almost every aspect of your life. They will never be a quiet element, such as a normal person would. These people will often times change the lives of the people they come in contact with, bettering them and such. It's not a subtle effect, but something you can notice if you are willing to recognize it and listen. Indigo Children will sweep through your life like a storm, leaving you changed and much better for their contact with you. Crystal Children will breeze through your life, like a gentle wind, and leave you in wonder and amazement at their amazing souls. These children will ALWAYS have an air about them that can be irresistable. The one trait that both children will have is the desire to help the world in a big way. It is something they all want to do, no matter who they are, where they come from or how they've been raised. They are different, and they will feel that way, even to a stranger. You cannot spend time with these children and be unchanged, because it's not possible.

Often times, the list of traits and characteristics of a new child doesn't do them any justice. It can't bring the effect an indigo or a crystal child can have on you to life. It doesn't give you the true effect that a real interaction with a real indigo or crystal will have on you. It can't give you the feeling you have around them. These articles, books and music can't accuratly describe an indigo or crystal child, because they are people, and you can never sum a person up in a short list. 

Why are they here?

There are those that say these children are here to change the world, and to change us. They say they are here to bring us to our highest potential, and to direct us into being more natural. There are also those people that say these children are problems, bratty, and have disorders rather than gifts. They say they are here for nothing at all, and are just being exploited by new age parents. Then there are those that simply don't care, or hold a neutral ground on the matter.

The opinions differ from person to person, and not everyone has the same opinion of why they're here, where they come from or even what they exactly are. In the end, it's up to you to make up your mind.

What is the difference between an Indigo Child and a Crystal Child?

The indigo children are more of the warriors--the strong willed, passionately determined, pure hearted fighters, leaders and teachers. They are here to change things, mowing down any unfit systems in their paths. They are like the wild winds that nobody can tame or cage. They move over the Earth, touching and changing everything in their paths. They can be a gentle carress or a fury of distasterous proportions. What they are depend on you, though. If you are untruthful, they'll be the raging storm. If you are honest, open and loving to them, they will be the gentle caress. You must realize, though, that they arn't the pushovers, and, if they see fit to change you, they will do so, whether you like it or not. They are a living statement, and they are saying to the world, 'You will change. You have no choice because I will make you change. You will see my dreams, and live my dreams with me. It will be life, reality and a realized future.'

The crystal children, soft and loving, are like the delicate wild flowers in a forest medow. They are here to bring the love, compassion and joys of life to the world. They are here as powerful, yet vulnerable, teachers. They are the gems that the indigo children place a path for. The decision to change, to accept what they offer, is yours to make. They are not pushing or warrior-like. They are healers, nature children and bright, pure hearted angelic individuals. They are here to show the world, and it's people, what it can be. Like the indigo children, they are a living statement saying, 'We can change. We can have peace. Our dreams can be realized and brought to life!'

How do you identify a Indigo or Crystal Child?

Indigo Children and Crystal Children are not made. They are born. What they are is in everything they do. It's not something that is there for an hour and disappears. It is who and what they are--a whole part of them just as the rest of their functions. They will be those children that touch you, that shock you, that make you see things. To identify them is to identify yourself, and talking to them as well, recognizing the fact that they are there not as an indigo or crystal, but as a person.

There are other said was to identify one of these children, though, besides their personalities. To the left you will see an image of the color indigo. If a child is an indigo, it is said that this will be the dominate color you will see in their auras. While it can be combined with other colors, this is their life color, meaning this is the color of their personality and, basically, who and how they are. The Indigo Children were named such by Nancy Ann Tappe, a clairvoyant with the ability to see auras. They were given the name 'indigo children' because that was the color she noticed in their auras very heavily.

The aura of the crystal children are very different from the aura of the indigo children. While the indigo children have a set aura color, the crystal children have auras that change colors from the person they come in contact with. They mimic the aura of the people around them, but when they have their own auras, the colors appear as soft crystallined pastels. It's not a dark colored aura, like the indigo children. The image to your left is similar to what the aura of a crystal child can be like. Besides pastel colors, though, the aura of a crystal child can also be white or clear.  

Can you become an Indigo or Crystal child?

To be completely honest, I have no idea. While I have heard of people claiming to have become an indigo or crystal child, I am not really sure if that is possible. The effects of a true indigo or crystal child isn't there. There are elements to these children that don't seem to be able to be aquired. It has to be inborn in the person, and won't just appear with a transition. While they have the personality, there are other attributes that are lacking. A indigo can make the transition to crystal, and visa versa, but those are the only successful transformations I've come across.

It may or may not be possible, though. I can't really be sure.

How old are the Indigo and Crystal Children?

It is said that a majority of indigo children are around 7 or 8 to their late twenties. They are the first of the new children to have been born. While there are those who are older, having been born during the depression or later, they are called 'scouts.' They are said to be the people who came here as look outs, getting a feel for Earth before the major waves came in. It is said that there have always been a group of indigo children on Earth, and their numbers have simply been growing, but that's in debate.

The crystal children, unlike the indigos, are usually young children, babies to around ten mostly. There are older crytals who are, like the older indigos, scouts to see if humanity was ready for the sensitive high vibrational children. While both type of children are high vibrational individuals, the crystal children are much more sensitive than the generations before them. The debate on the exact year they began to appear is in depate, though. It differs from the mid 1990s to even the late 1980s.

Who parents these children?

The popular opinion of skeptics is that all Indigo and Crystal Children are the offspring of new age and hippie thinking parents, but this is so far from the truth. The parents of these children come from all backgrounds and walks of life. They can have all sorts of home lives, personal lives and family history. They arn't just a few nationalities, but are born all over the world in every corner of it. Their parents can be very spiritual, or very strict catholics, jews or muslims.

While there are those children that do have spiritual, new age and hippy parents, not all of them have those type of parents. There are even some parents that have no idea of the concept of indigos or crystals, yet they know their children are different.

Could they be misguided?

Yes, they can be misguided, but what child can't? There isn't a person out there that is perfect. They can be absorbed in ideas, dreams, hopes and concepts. They arn't indestructable. By lableing them indigos or crystal children, you are not saying they aren't vulnerable to misguidance or any other danger of childhood. If anything, it makes them more vulnerable to it, because they can be considered misfits of current society, which is why some of them are stuck with labels like ADD, ADHD, Autism, Deslexic and so on. They are still people, no matter what lable they hold. 

They are still children, and they have children hopes, loves, dreams--the elements of childhood, or adulthood, depending on their ages. They can make mistakes and stumble just like everybody else. 

Are they misguided in what they are, though? I don't know. You have to talk to a real indigo or crystal child to make up your own mind. It doesn't matter how many life experiences you read or how many books and articles you come across, you have to make up your own mind by seeing them yourself. That is the only way to fully convince any person.

Can Indigo Children and Crystal Children be Otherkin, Starseeds and <insert other lable> or visa versa?

I have heard it said that otherkin, starseeds and such are really indigo and crystal children who are misguided, but I have found that to not be the case. There are differences, sometimes very large, between the different labels and the people who hold them. There is no evidence that they are in any way related to one another. Between otherkin, the new children, starseeds and such, there are traits and characteristic factors that puts miles between the different groups.

While otherkin can be indigo, crystal or a hybrid of the two, the two are not the same. As for otherkin and starseeds being the same, only the concepts are different, but some starseeds can be considered otherkin, since there are those that do believe they are people of non-human souls from a different planet planted here to help Earth. However, there are still differences separating starseeds and otherkin.

Something Different: An Overview

There are many changes going on with society right now. While some think it's nearing the 'End Times,' there are those who have a more optimisitc outlook and say that things will get better. The New Children are a part of a wave of something different that has been invading Earth for quite some time now. You can call it anything you like, but it is still made up of people.

Whether these people being born, and labled, are acutally different is up to you to determine. The reality and truth of anything is up to you to determine, because it is your mind and your thoughts. The only person who has a right to those things are you.  

From the sexual revolution of the seventies and earlier, to the appearance of the hippies and spirituality, there is something different in the air and many people feel it. The New Children are a part of a picture that does grow bigger. Are they here to save the world and do all the things people say they will? Who knows? In the world, anything can truly happen, and we all have large potentials. It is entirely possible, but, then again, it could all be the dreams of fools.
