Top of the website (above the banner [picture] right side of icons
"Free Website Build.com"
Might want to make that a logo or something
-
Below banner, right of "home" might want to add items to menu
such as Free HTML website builder, etc
note: I know you do it as you progress to build
-
Might want to show some "screenshots" of examples or the main page
of "FTP client" and "CM Simple"
you did it in upload, permissions and setup
-
Might want to add a free photo editor and "free public domain photos"
like "http://www.pdphoto.org/"
and "http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/software/PhotoPlus/default.asp"
-
Great idea - you gave me some information I didn't know
a free website builder "CM Simple"
-
hope this helps

Should i change the menu-item?

Thanks for the feedback!

Nice easy to follow site, but the header just doesn't seem the go with it.
It looks like you might be on 000webhost web hosting affiliate program, which is good.
The one problem I do have is with Step 8: Permissions
It looks like you listed info right from CMSimple. Telling people to CHMOD the permissions of the files and directories to 777.

777 is insanely insecure.
777 is a binary representation of:
rwx (read/write/execute)
Owner - can read write execute
group - can read write execute
world - can read write execute
Since CMSimple is not a community portal, it makes no sense to allow the world access to all you files - that invites bad people in.

A better choice would be 755
755 means read and execute access for everyone and but only the owner of the files has write access.

Menu items
Might want all items listed on all menus
That way returning visitors can go directly to the item they want

hope this helps

Thanks, 755, i'm gonna test that one, if that also works I'll change that.

For the menu, i want to make more tutorials, like becoming a affiliate and make money so i want to keep some pace left for that. And there are a ton of plugins that are easy to install, i want to put that on the website.

Its nice to hear that it is easy to follow, thats one of the thinks I'm trying to achieve with the website.

(iam still looking for link partners )

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm glad you are going to look into it while your at it check your .htaccess file make sure you have
#Options -Indexes
typed in it. There is just to much of your site that is exposed and accessible.
You should also tell them to back-up their site on a regular basis. If you free host allows it create a cron job to perform it automatically.

Looks like you recognized your files.
I really don't like to say on the forum because people will then learn how to hack a site.
When in reality you are to test your site, to ensure it can not be hacked.
The .htaccess file with #Options -Indexes is a good start, even if it's the only line of code in it.
I was also able to create a php error and have it display on my screen. With that info it would have taken less than 5 minutes and I would have been inside your root directory.
Bye-Bye site or maybe I could have used it as a relay or have had it sending out spam or collecting other peoples info. The possibilities are endless.
So try out the 755 chmod on your files and see if your site still works.
I just love that 777 world - can read write execute
Remember you are working with an old CMS program.

Hey Buikie, I am sorry but I have to be honest: I don't really like it. First of all I don't really like the look (very personal of course). On the top "FreeWebsiteBuild" is linked, but it seems it has been alligned from the left and you have put the "share" button over that. You have a "free" website but with Google adds. I personally don't like that.

Secondly,I don't really like the feel/content. I have a website now, which still needs lots of improvements but which had some big improvements just now, so I am not really in the mood to testing the full functionality of all the programs and steps you offer, but I don't think it is ever "easy" if you want a good or professional website for free. I have tested so many programs, steps, etc. In the end the best way is to get on internet fora. There are so many nice people to help with things. That should be the main message of your website! :-)
