Can someone make this logo more professional?

My band name is From Ruin. This chinese looking symbol is what we decided to go with for our logo (i did it in the paint program). Could someone make it look more professional with photoshop or something? I was thinking maybe in the style of the other chinese symbol with a chrome or a glossy finish like the apple logos. That would probably look the most professional. Other than that, it might look cool to make it look like fresh ink like the symbol was writen with a brush. If you could give me a few variations, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks to whoever gives this a go.

Cool. Thanks for the quick response. That's definately better than what I could do, but I'm afraid it's still a little too cartoony. If you could make it a little sharper and then render it with a slick finish, that's what I'm looking for.

That's awesome Jaybird! How did you get those edges so clean? I tried my best in photoshop and came up with this, but it's not as crisp as yours. Could you take this new logo (the shape could maybe go a little skinnier) and put it into that same style as yours? And the sparkles are cool, but not right for what we're going for. thanks a lot for your time and sorry for being a little picky. i'm affraid i'm a little confused. where is the image you want me to edit. the edges are vector art work thats why they are clean. i took your image and imported into photochop then traced it with the pen tool. P.m me the image or repost.
