    Hi everyone-
I'm pretty new here, but I like the idea behind the site, and I think I'll definitely be in here a fair amount, trying to help out where I can with my limited graphics capabilities. I may be able to help more with coding issues though, as that is where I have more experience.

    Anyway!

After 3 years of playing under the name of our lead singer/songwriter's name, we finally came out with a band name, and I am on a hard push to market the new band name, website, tshirts, stickers, etc. True to our ways, we're taking forwever to agree on a logo, (just like taking forever to come up with a band name). I thought I would try to enlist some outside help. Once we decide on one, it's going to become the persistent theme in our web page, merch, stage backdrop, etc. So, obviously it's really important.

    On to the questionnaire...

    1) What is the exact name you would like in your logo?
The name of the band is "Six Way Stop". Positioning and such are subjective to the logo, I suppose.

    2) What is your website address (ex: http:/site .com/; Site Name)? sixwaystop.com -- The site is not done yet. I suppose this is a "chicken and the egg" situation, but I thought I'd create the website theme around the logo.

    3) Description of your website or business:
We're a 6 piece (get it? :)) acoustic rock band. Guitar/singer, bass, drums, keys, saxes. We play about 80% original music in and around Indianapolis, IN. You can see/hear our stuff on our Facebook page (just do a search for Six Way Stop… Shortened URL still pending as we need 25 ‘likes’, and we just put up the page a few days ago).

    4) Have you found any logos/designs on the web that you feel convey
the style you are looking for?
So far, I have done a handful of logos, and they are all getting met with ‘meh’. I think the obvious direction for “Six Way Stop” was a stop sign. I made up a logo with the name on a hexagonal stop sign, but that didn’t come out as clever as I’d hoped. I’m actually trying to veer away from the stop sign. See some of my logo attempts below. Mostly, I just like playing with fonts in PS, and as you can see have no strong design skills.

    5) Requested size of your logo:
Basically we ask this to determine the graphics resolution and what it will be eventually used for.
I’m going to need this to be pretty high res, as it will eventually get screenprinted onto a stage banner (let’s say, maybe 6-10 feet wide). Vector graphics are good for this reason, but a high res image that will scale is great too. It will also go on tshirts, stickers and web, so perhaps a smaller version as well? I’m honestly not real sure how big of a hassle that is, so if it is to be one or the other, let’s go smaller, since most of what I’ll be cranking out will be less than a foot wide.

    6) Do you have any images/photos that can be used for the logo?
Feel free to use any of the pics on our FB page; there are many. We are working on putting together a promo shoot, as most of our “in action” shots make us look like we are either in pain, or are suffering from some sort of allergic reaction.

    7) What logo styles do you like (text only, image only, text and image, etc.)?
I think I’m leaning toward non-picture, graphic with prominent text.

    8) What colors do you want to see in your logo?
As you can see from my previous attempts, I’m pretty open on my color choices. Though, since the band is 5/6 male, I’m going to say that the pink logo may have been doomed from the start. Primary colors, probably, reds and blues. However, since there will be a lot of use in flyers and handbills, etc., it would be good to make sure it also look OK in black & white.

    9) What colors do you NOT want to see in your logo?
    See #8.

    10) Describe the target audience for your logo
Gosh, kind of a tough question. Our band audience ranges from high school kids on up through middle age. We play mostly 21+ bars/clubs, so we cater toward an older crowd, but we have a pretty strong under 18 crowd as well (two members are band teachers and their kids love us). The logo may be a different target than our audience, as we are looking to get people to see a tshirt and want more information based on what they see.

    11) What are the top 3 things you would like to communicate through your logo?
I’m unsure of the limits of what a logo like this can convey… I suppose 1)We’re a fun act, so come see our next show, 2)We’re tight and organized, musically and professionally, 3)…We kick ass?

    12) Where will your logo be used (print, website, etc.)?
As mentioned before: Stickers, tshirts, banners, flyers, website, Facebook page, print ads, laser-cut onto the moon’s surface…

    13) Do you have other info or links you want to share?
Definitely check the FB page. That is currently our media hub (until other channels are developed). Plenty of music, bios, pictures, video, etc.

    14) Finally we need is there a style font you prefer, please let us know.
No particular fonts, just appropriate to the logo.

Anyone have any ideas? We're still coming up short on good ideas. Even if you have something that isn't perfect or polished, just the idea can get us going, and I can flesh it out on my own. Looking forward to your ideas!

I'm sure the designers have the ideas but probably can't back to you yet as they all have day job. Meanwhile maybe you can help out around here if you are not too busy.
