I am wondering if anybody has any experience with two sets of templates I am considering buying. The first and probably the easiest to discuss is the one I found at http://www.templatehelp.com/preset/pr_preview.php?i=18858&pr_code=Ic85z4C4132BK35cIz4o20jWG430X0 This template is available at a number of sites and looks quite like what I want to implement; however, I am afraid there will be some horrible revelation awaiting. Anybody know about this one? The second template I want to know about is found at http://www.boonex.com/products/dolphin/ I do not want to set up a dating site, but I am in need of some social network options that will be on a stand alone site. What I like about it is the fact it includes: forums, groups, blogs, marketplace, newsletters, all that sort of thing. The photo and video sections look like I may want to use them some time in the future, but mostly I want the simple interpersonal communication elements. I can see why the dating elements would be of some interest if you want to make insane money from the site, but mine is mostly a community centre sort of thing. Sort of a parish pump where people can get the news and gossip out to your community. Cheers for the help, Frank Sirett
One is for selling One for Community building. Try http://www.joomla.org/ Cutting Edge Content Management Joomla! is one of the most powerful Open Source Content Management Systems on the planet. It is used all over the world for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications. Joomla! is easy to install, simple to manage, and reliable.
Cheers for that! I shall look for a social networking template in Joomla. The osCommerce system looks quite good, so I shall continue to look at that one. I have found distinct advantages to that. I did not expect to find nearly the variety of options (or prices) that I have been presented with. It is all a little overwhelming. The specialist language (application?) market seems to have changed completely since I last looked. Incredible! I am now off to look for Joomla information and templates. Cheers for that, Frank Sirett
I don't think it'll be easy for you to find those people who have already used these templates because there are thousands of templates online. I would choose the one I personally like if I start my own online project
Thanks again Thanks for your kind advice, I changed web servers and I have not had the easiest time of it, as i am certain many of you know. I have to look at Drupal again. I have been working with Joomla and it appears to be rather easy...so far! I do like the extensions in Joomla. It makes everything so easy and I notice there is one that integrates OsCommerce I may have to look at. My original idea was to use a simple OsCommerce template to create a simple shop and Joomla to run the more social side of the company. Keeping them separate seems to make sense for security in so many ways. In any case, I am still amazed at what looks like the same template for different prices on different sites. Anybody know anything about that? Cheers Frank Sirett
