Hey guys I am trying to make my home page say wow I want to stay and look around. Right now it has no real focus. I am playing with some designs. Could you let me know what you think of this one. Grodt's idea of 'icons' seems to have hit the nail on the head! I think I preferred the other page only (as I've mentioned before) there needs to be some contrasting colours rather than several shades of lavender. I've played round further with the image I posted a few months ago.
I dont remember that. do you have the separate pic files still, The icons in the menus and the 2 header images
Attached is the layered file if you want to play around with it. Those little icon things were just white ps 'shapes' with a 2px outer stroke. I can make you some up if you work out what types you're after. (let me know when you have the attachment so I can delete it) Cheers CP
You still need to darken the background color, which will probably mean you will have to change the color for text "gadgets powered by google", text color for black main text which resides on the background, your main menu hoover color and maybe the copywrite text color. CP's banners make the site more inviting. The icons are a great touch, you should take her up on the offer and put them in.
I am using some graphics made by Covert pea. and cleaning it up I have to get more focus some how. I also plan to use the icons. I will most lickly loose the rss feed for free stuff on the main page so that I can put some text in each link area to tell what each section is about. I have already darkened the background. That's okay Brian, much like me when you guys start talking in code terms. WAY over my head! I prefer the graphics you've used, they help to add some extra defining colour to your site. As for the texted sub-sections, keep plenty of 'white space' around each and place them in neat parallel? rows and columns. I'm sure you'll then be on a winner!

100%! Just a small nit-pick: Change your tabs text to white. (and maybe that 'gadgets' bit too) Btw, I uploaded a pic of my doggie (an animated gif) and although it opens on a new page okay, the actual 'last 6 most recent' thumbnail is a black rectangle. Also got this message after uploading.
now it looks good and not clutterd, but one little fix on those fantastic dropdown menu windows - they don't close.
I am using something called imagemagil a php module to resize the pictures. I dint think it likes animated gifs. And Dave what browser are you using. I have tried fire,opera,ie chrome and the boxes open and close perfect in all of them.
