Actually hosting for new sites is pretty cheap these days.For a 3-5 dollar each month you can get quality hosting.
It is always better to pay for hosting than to have it free from many reasons.

 

I used www.freewebs.com when I just started out with webdesign.

You get get a free sub domain with them and they have some pretty cool features for people starting out with webdesign.
