Hi, so I wasn't sure if this was the right place to put this request, but I've already created the design, and all I need is just it to be coded -- CSS and HTML....I need to be able to edit the left side navigation menu. THe right upper top few words needs to be links, and then the right blank spot needs to be coded so I can input words in it....

Here's my design...let me know if you need anymore info! Thanks :D

    Hi Cynthia,

Please take a look at: MAP Home Page. Let me know if you'd like any changes. Please note that the links work and I've created the five pages you need for the top nav bar.

P.S. If anyone else wants a website template doing from a graphical image of the required page please get in touch as I'm testing some new web design software and may as well be doing something useful.

Is this web design software of your own? If not would like to join with me to work on odCMS. It's a simple CMS but allow you to easily add new functions where you can make it as complex as you like.

One of the features of odCMS is the ease of converting designs into themes. If you want to see how this work, I can convert the design you made for Cynthia into theme.

    Hi tomw,

I've taken a look - can you tell me a bit about what your software does, and the advantages of using it?

I posted this thread to promote my project. There might be some information about odCMS that you find useful in knowing what the system does.

The main feature of this system is the ease of designs to themes conversion. I converted your design into theme in less than 10 minutes. However, there is one function I'm having difficulty of implementing - highlighting the page when the page is selected. That is only item I see is missing in the theme.

marksvision - I know basic HTML, and I know how to convert a psd file into html - only the table/splicing way though. I can learn how to do the way I want, but I don't have the time to do it right now. I'm in the midst of packing right now, and it's all a bit hectic for me.

Geoff Tyrer- Yes, that is what I wanted. I can change the background color (from white to another color, right?), the text color, and what not, correct? Also, can I possibly put a thick black border around the design? I'd like to have a colored background, and I think this method might be my best bet as a solution.... Thank you so much for your help. I need to learn CSS...and I will soon....hopefully.

Also, I just realized that the orange/beachy/yellow color is a bit too dark - is that my file or..? Let me know if I should upload the psd file again.

    Again, thanks.

    Hi tomw,

I don't understand what you mean by "highlighting the page when the page is selected"? Do you mean highlighting it on the nav bar - because that seems to work on the MAP site you created.

Yes, the highlighting I'm referring to is when a page is selected (nav bar) it goes from light color (#d3dde8) to white (#ffffff). I got it working now by modifying the CSS.

I have taken a look at your web design program. It is a very nice system for someone who wants to create websites but with very little knowledge about the process. One drawback I see is your system is operating offline and required to uploading the changes made. Although everything is well integrated but I think updating done at a local level is a disadvantage; for example, users at different location cannot update the website easily.

Have you thought of porting your system to run online like most conventional CMSes? If you do and looking for a partner, you have found one.

Sorry Cynthia for hijacking your thread.

    Hi Cynthia,

Yes you can change the colors - you just edit the CSS. The background is a jpg that I took from your psd file and you can easily replace it with one that has a black border and a different orange. One limitation of your design is that the backgound image is a fixed size and cannot be tiled so you are limited to content that fits nicely on top of it.

I'll zip everything up for you and post again with a link to the file and then you can take over. Don't hesitate to ask if you get stuck modifying it.

    Hi Cynthia,

You can get your website template files here: http://www.vizigen.com/vizigenhc/layouts/downloads/map.zip.

It has all the pages featured on the top nav bar so all you need do is edit the content. If you want to tinker with the appearance change the images and/or edit the CSS.

If you need any help get in touch.

    Hi tomw,

I don't see my system as a content management system = it's more of an HTML/CSS generator with the content being incidental so far as I'm concerned. Obviously it's very important to the user but the hard part for me is producing the page layout.

I haven't thought about porting it to run online as you mention but I'd be happy to consider other uses of the underlying software if you have some specific ideas. One thing it could possibly be made to do is generate your themes (assuming you go from the HTML/CSS to the theme by some rule-based procedure).

I would have to disagree with your assessment tomw.
You are only looking at this from one side. CMS has it's place for what you said above but Cynthia would have no use what so ever for such a system.
The sites that I manage would be a disaster if more than one person was able to access them. If I wasn't able to simulate changes on my server in the house, I would have to much down time on the live site, that my clients would be tick off to say the least. In todays climate of high speed connections uploading is a snap. If you know your FTP program well you can do almost anything in a blink of an eye. Did I mention that my pc runs circles around my hosts server in terms of speed. It's a whole lot easier to test down here and then upload. Even easier to set up a test bed on the host server and upload file changes for my clients review.

I been looking at Geoff Tyrer software and so far from what I have seen it is a tightly written nice peace of work, does what it clams.
I could have used it in the past to quickly generate a web for a client in the first stages of design and saved myself countless hours of hand coding.
Also for those clients that wanted something quick an easy to get up on the net.

There are many tools to work with - the problem most people have is using the right ones for the job.

Sorry Cynthia - didn't mean to step on your post.

Yes, I'm looking at this from one side. From what I see, if Cynthia were to implement Geoff Tyrer's system she would rely on him to manage all the updates since the system is in his local system, which I believe cannot be accessed remotely. No doubt there are systems best be managed by one individual, for instance those sites that you own. However, there are systems require updates from multiple sources. It would be a cumbersome process for all the changes needed be forward to a single location and then have a person at that location to make the update.

I agree the CMS would have no use for Cynthia if she has no intention of updating her site.

I have already made my apology to Cynthia.

No all she has to do is download one of his versions - learn it and she is on her own.
