I think I am going brain dead.
If anyone else wants to try creating a graphic - please give it a shot.
The part that I can't figure out is you can not save a aninated gif by right clicking and save as is. Try a zipped one.

As a business that relied solely on creating and selling signage, you would think they'd supply their own to ensure their sponsor banner looked 'you beaut professional'. I know I would!
It wouldn't hurt to ask them for advice first on how they want their sponsor sign to look as it would save our graphic's people here some valuable time (and brain wear-down as in Dave's case at the moment).

    Cheers
    CP

btw, top job there Dave! :)

Like I said, its an up and coming business. Sorry if you feel I am wasting valuable time, the owner (works by himself) did such a nice thing for our department that I told him I would take care of it.

Dave, thanks for wasting your valuable time on a 100% Volunteer Fire department and the people who sponsor it:D

Tut tut, don't make me out to be an old meany! ;)
    I said:
No mention was made of wasting our time.

The reason I mentioned this is purely from experiences on this board.

We receive an enormous amount of graphical and coding requests here and almost all are completed in quick time, for free, and our request-ees are extremely happy with the end results.

On the downside though, there are other request-ees who ask for re-dos or alterations many times over and this takes our time away from completing other jobs that are quickly piling up on our long lists. A lot of these same request-ees eventually get back to their teams/friends/co-owners and find they either wanted something entirely different all along or loved the very first example created by us.
Hence, my suggestion of asking for advice from your intended sponsor before proceeding any further.

(also a 100% volunteer worker, not only here but in real life and it aint no big thing)

CP does make a good point. I'm a coder who's just hacking at these graphics to learn, and she let's me. ;)
But she is right, most artists are tempermental an Anthony my feel it does not reflect his style.
but here is one more anyway.
    Coders are just... picky

So The web host changed the code and will allow me to upload animated banners but I still cant get it to save animated. The banner function under my website allows me to browse my computer but when I save the animated banner it doesn't stay animated. Any Ideas as to what I am doing wrong???

It is possible there is a file size limit or they are using a basic php script which only allows basic file uploads in which case the whole animated gif would be uploaded but only 1 frame would show. Animated gifs have several frames or seperate pictures, which are displayed for a set period of time, making them look as if they are moving.
So you are not doing anything wrong.

There's already a simple animated 'gif' on your site, (thumb_30.gif) the firehouse dolls, so accepting another shouldn't cause any problems.

From what I'm reading, your problem may be just getting the gif loaded onto your computer.

    1. Right click on Ishkey's animated banner.

    2. Find and left click on "save image as" in the flyout.

3.The image save window should open with that file's info already in place, as below:

Save In: My Documents (at least in my case, could be different for you)
    File Name: DF2
    Save as Type: GIF Image

    4. Click on SAVE.

The whole time I have been saving it the way you posted. When I save it it loses animation in my documents.

I saved it anyway and uploaded it to the website and it regained animation on the web. I thought it would save animated but it doesn't.

Both banners are in the rotation, it appears to be working great. Thanks for all the help.

What is a good program for a beginner to start using to create banners and such??

It saves without animation, I loaded it and it regained animation. I guess that is where I got confused.

It came up with a white line under it, I think it may be due to the size being off a bit, but it works great!!!!!!!

    Thanks again everyone.

I use paint shop pro x, photoshopcs3 and xara extreme pro4.
then there is xnview, irfanview and gif construction set plus a few more.
here is a list you could try
    Open sourceGIMP · DigiKam · Krita · KolourPaint · Tux Paint · GrafX2
    FreewareArtweaver · Pixia · Paint.NET · IrfanView

check out this link if for a better understanding http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_software

By the way I am thinking that the size you gave is the max size allowed for a banner (468x120) the old standby size has been 468x60.
like below. you might try to load it and see what happens.

The site has three options when loading banners 468*120, 120*225, 120*468

The 120*225 I think are the side banners. The instructions say they must be close to the determined size when loading so I assume the site converts them if they are close in range.

I would think it means do not go over, as it would have to disassemble the mutiple frames in a animated gif, resize and reassemble it. No program is going to do that. it most likley takes static gifs/jpgs and resizes to those above.
