Live Trace does not work. Hand tracing is very long and tedious. I just have not been able to achive anything along those lines. Could ya would ya pleeease shed some light as to how you did that. I enlarged the original and used it as a base to recreate the lines and stuff using the pen tool to kind of 'trace' the outlines of the base then smoothing the rough path with the 'convert point' tool. The paths are then filled individually with either red or white. Delete the path of that finished section and start all over again on the next part. Very slow process but effective. No big secret. See the below pic.
