Lets be covering two types of button for now, Text image and Picture Image.

In this video tutorial below you will be shown how to create a Text Image button but first you will need a text image to use for your button so thats your first mission.

You can create your button in Flash CS or 8 or by using a program like Photoshop, there are a lot of websites that have free buttons, or your other option is to use Microsoft Paint and a free online image editor like Free Online Image Editor

Video Tutorial How to create a Button in Flash CS / 8

Its in Flash CS4 but it is no different from Flash CS3+ or Flash 8+

Now notice the Picture Image buttons on the main page of my website (linked here www.exposedemotion.co.uk) linking to each of their own galleries, well you achieve creating these picture images with the above tutorial but with a few tweeks along the way.

Now the grey rectangle would be the button, a picture image of the same size as the button would be dragged onto the 'Over' keyframe on the timeline and positioned over the grey button image but just a little lower so that when you drag the cursor over the grey button, the picture image will appear a bit lower down allowing for the text to be positioned just above the picture but behind the grey button.

Remember our incorporating the image behind the grey button instead of changing the button colour, when the video tutorial tells you to change the button colour its time to ignore that part and add the picture image to the 'Over' keyframe.

you could drag both the button and picture images while in the button timeline, into any position you like but just be aware it is not advised to spread them to far apart. If you do you may find your buttons or images will overlap each other unless spread far enough apart on the webpage you place them.

If you are working on an existing Flash template then make sure to you drag the button once created onto the right page.

Just had a chance to read and look over the links you provided.
Nice work, easy to follow with good tips. Should be a breeze for anyone wishing to create rollover in flash. I have noticed many more sites are using this technique.
Thanks for taking the time to post up the info in such a simple concise manor.
    Keep up the great work.
