Flash or no flash?

I'd like to see what other people think of 'flash' intros or content on websites they either own or visit.
    Personally they drive me nuts!
If a flash intro starts on a site I will always cancel loading and go look elsewhere no matter how interesting it may appear.
So , what are your thoughts on flash?

    Intros - Bad
Content - Cool, if used right.
Whole site - Cool, if designed right, and goes with the type of website.

The thing about flash, is that there are so many ways to make people think you are using flash, when you really arn't.
Like, Ajax, some of that stuff looks like it was made in flash.
So, I think the age of flash is fading out, and Ajax and other web 2.0 things are fading in.
I also think that the good'ole basic websites are coming back in style.
With, hip new designs, to make them nicer on the eyes.

Like, I'm currently working on a new website for myself (I always am).
    http://dapezboy.org/dev/
And its all pure basic HTML.
It loads quick, and works in all browsers, perfectly.

But, that's just my rant, and my two cents.

Agreed - flash intros make me either click away or hit "skip."

    Here's the math:

If I go to 30 websites in 1 day and all of them took up an extra 3 minutes total time because they use flash (intros, pages, whatever), that would equal 90 minutes out of my life I would never get back that day.

Intros to websites should be banned. Flash menus are, ok I suppose, but I have a need for speed!

I don't like Flash intros as well. They look rather annoying. Though, I like Flash web sites.

Well i confess i´m a flash fan... Regarding the intros i think that 5 or 10 seconds are good enought... not much more than that...
I personally prefer sites that have an "integrated intro", on other words an intro that an intro that "explodes", that becomes the site itself...

@ t3-web - I can tell you like cool new gadgets and electronics (me, too).

You know, the thing with flash is that I don't necessarily not like it, it's that I'm just too busy to deal with waiting. I like the fact that it brings the Internet more to life, but I guess the entrepreneur in me is wanting to have everything yesterday.

Also, your signature is cracking me up!

If a flash site is done right.
It's great. But, it also has to be for the right type of website.
If its one one where your are trying to get information off of. It would be a bad use of the flash.
Now, if you are a photographer, and you want to put a gallery online with a few lines of text.
Flash would be perfect for you.

I believe flash intros should be intergraded as a commercial for your website. Most commercials in the US are 30 - 15 seconds. Flash intros should be within that time frame, if not, i get bored. Flash is still a powerful tool for animation on the web. You can do so much more than some animated Gif, especially if where talking online Gaming. I don't believe flash is fading out, but currently flash intergraded with good html and php, is a good combination for great design.

I like Flash websites in case if the purpose of the site is to present a small amount of information, for example advertising information, in the most detailed way. Also Flash works great for multimedia presentations.

But if the site is mostly informative, Flash is inappropriate in this case.

I personally don't recommend anyone to use more and more animations in the site. As google like more content so its important to use quality content in your site instead of images or animations.

True davidfernando. Flash is pretty cool to mess around with. I experiment with it a lot and its becoming a good skill to know how to do :)

Flash intros are okay, but sometimes they take a long time to load.

I would advice to not use Flash.SE does see it as one big file.
The site in flash are very nice but from point of SE view they are all useless.
If you think to have success with promoting and gaining good position on SE do not use it.
