How do you modify pictures without distortion?

    Is there a free program available for it? I have Irfanview now and I don't know if its a setting I'm not toggling or what. The images are 3072 x 2048 and I would like to make them thumbnails and still retain the clarity.

    Irfanview Tumbnails - It's in IrFanview and works great.
