    Hi

I am going to set up online payments so clients can pay for advertising a product on my site and was wondering what is the best payment provider out there. Any of you use one or recommend any?

There will be different levels of payment depending on the level of service they require, plus I will be charging their customers to offer on their products so before they can they will have to pay a small fee first to enable them too offer. I'd need a company that could provide this and fairly easy to implement into my site with minimal cost.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated :)

The simplest solution would be PayPal. You can do one off payment and recurring payments (subscriptions). The customer does not need to make another account; PayPal can be used with or without an account. It means you do not require an SSL certificate and do not need to comply with the online safety regulations regarding online payments (the entire transaction is handled by PayPal). PayPal takes a cut of the payments done through it, you'll have to look these up. There are free and paid plans available, the free ones will take a higher cut of the transaction and the customer will be redirected to PayPal's payment portal (you can add your logo to this page, but it will look like PayPal).

I don't know if it matters to you, but PayPal have a dodgy history. They are happy to lock peoples account, stopping all transactions for random periods of time and withholding all the money in the account. They are the biggest and most 'trusted' online payment portal and their morals are just like any other bank. They're happy to screw you if it makes them some money.

I'm guessing you're in the US, which has quite a few other payment plan providers that we don't get here in the UK, so I can't tell you what they are like. The two largest alternatives are Amazon and Google. I don't know what the state of Amazons option is, it may not be what you need. Google Wallet will work, but it a few more regulations than PayPal that are worth investigating.

Authorize.net and WePay are two alternatives that I hear a lot about and definitely worth looking at. They are US only as far as I am aware. https://www.wepay.com/ http://www.authorize.net/

Stripe is a recent addition to the market that I have heard good things about. https://stripe.com/

I recommend you check out Authorize.net, WePay and Stripe (maybe google for some others). See if these meet your needs and remember to check how easy they are to integrate into your site. If they don't, use PayPal.

Thanks Recidivist that's great! I have thought about paypal but tbh it doesn't look professional for some reason.

I am in the UK, hence the post, as there are only a few to chose from and I know nothing about them or how easy they are to include into a website.

Really appreciate your time and effort in helping me.

    Cheers

Ah, well, unfortunately we don't get many options other than PayPal. In my personal opinion, I like it when sites offer PayPal payment (as much as I dislike PayPal as a company). I know it works, I know it's secure and its very quick & easy to use. I would agree that it doesn't look that professional but so many sites use it these days (including the free service) that I think it's just become a standard. I know quite a lot of sites that use PayPal and even though they presumably pay for the premium service, they still use the default PayPal payment portal. The paid service allows you to host and design your own payment portal, so this maybe better for you? The downside is this costs you £20/mo. The free service costs 3.4% + 20p per transaction. You'll have to weigh up the costs there.

I have set up sites with PayPal in the past and its certainly very easy and has tons of guides & setup info available. While I'd love to suggest a good alternative to you, I really really would, I just don't know of any that rival PayPal in the UK. I have looked and looked for my own sites and I still ended up with PayPal. Sorry :(

If you do bite the bullet and go with PayPal, feel free to message me if you need any help setting it up.

    Good luck.
